In a recent interview with NBC's Meet the Press, President Trump dismissed the notion of a third term, as it is restricted by the Constitution. He expressed admiration for Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as possible successors. Although Trump has previously suggested he might find ways around the 22nd Amendment, he clarified he is focused on achieving significant results during his current term, mentioning the sale of 2028 campaign merchandise and asserting these sales do not indicate his intentions to run again.
Mr. Trump stated, 'Itâs something that, to the best of my knowledge, youâre not allowed to do,' referring to the possibility of circumventing the 22nd Amendment.
Trump mentioned Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors, calling Vance a 'fantastic, brilliant guy' and Rubio 'great'.
He noted, 'Four years was enough time to do something really spectacular,' emphasizing his intent to deliver strong results before handing over leadership.
Regarding the 2028 campaign merchandise, he remarked, 'There are many people selling the 2028 hat, but this is not something I'm looking to do.'
