""It is critical that you do not discuss any aspects of this case with anyone else unless UC counsel is present,""
""We are committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward and share what they know,""
""The preservation notice we issued is required by law. The language advising recipients not to broadly circulate the notice is standard and intended to safeguard the integrity of the investigation.""
UCSF told Ward 86 employees to refrain from discussing the Dec. 4 fatal stabbing of a social worker unless UC counsel is present, citing that the university was "on notice" of potential litigation. The litigation risk officer’s preservation notice asked recipients to "acknowledge receipt," and advised against broadly circulating details to safeguard the investigation. Ward 86 workers have been reluctant to speak publicly and many will only provide anonymous accounts. Staff had previously called for improved safety protocols and have criticized hospital security provided by the sheriff’s department and oversight by the Department of Public Health.
