A number of notable current NFL signal-callers also rose to the role of QB1 in their true freshman seasons. As Underwood prepares for his first major test, we looked back at the most successful such outings from those now-NFL starters in their first true freshman starts against power conference foes."

Michigan will travel to Norman to face No. 18 Oklahoma on Saturday, where a hostile crowd and defensive coach Brent Venables present the first major test of Underwood’s career. True freshman starting quarterbacks are uncommon but some have succeeded in power-conference debuts. In 2021, Oklahoma’s Williams threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 66 yards and a score in a 52-31 win over TCU. In 2019, Arizona State’s Daniels completed 15 of 26 for 140 yards and rushed 12 times for 37 yards in a 10-7 road win at Michigan State.
