"United Parcel Service (UPS) is planning to close dozens of packaging facilities this year, the shipping giant revealed in a court filing this week. The plans include shuttering facilities in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and several other states. It includes locations that have union employees, according to a docket made public as part of a lawsuit between UPS and the Teamsters Union. United Parcel Service plans to close dozens of packaging facilities this year, including 22 locations now publicly identified across more than 18 states. The closures span Washington, Texas, Illinois, North Dakota, Wyoming, Oregon, California, Nevada, Maryland, Massachusetts, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio and Michigan. Several affected facilities have union employees and local unions were notified of the closures and anticipated impacts. UPS previously announced plans to cut 30,000 jobs over the coming year amid automation and the winding down of its partnership with Amazon.
