Nathan Vilas Laatsch, an IT specialist working for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), was arrested for attempting to transmit classified national defense information to a foreign government. Laatsch, who has held a Top Secret security clearance since 2019, began communicating with an individual he believed was a foreign operative after expressing his disagreement with U.S. administration values. Over several days, he transcribed classified documents and attempted to deliver them at a public park. The FBI arrested him upon retrieval of a thumb drive containing sensitive information.
"Laatsch, a civilian DIA employee, offered to share classified national defense information with a foreign government, citing disagreement with the current administration's values."
"The FBI initiated an operation in response to a tip involving Laatsch's communications, leading to his attempt to exfiltrate classified documents and transcribe sensitive information."
