Columbia University student Mohsen Mahdawi has been released from immigration custody following a ruling that allows him to contest deportation. His arrest stemmed from his involvement in pro-Palestinian protests and occurred during his citizenship interview. After two weeks of detention, Mahdawi was freed by Judge Geoffrey Crawford, who prohibited the Trump administration from deporting him. Mahdawi, a legal US resident since 2015, emphasized his fearlessness towards Trump, while his lawyer argued that the government aimed to imprison him solely for his speech content.
"I am not afraid of you," Madhawi said, addressing US President Donald Trump.
"Mohsen has committed no crime, and the government's only supposed justification for holding him in prison is the content of his speech," Lia Ernst stated.
