Vote now: Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week
Voting for the Bay Area News Group boys Athlete of the Week follows strict rules: bots and artificial methods are prohibited, suspicious activity may cause disqualification and permanent poll suspension, and votes by email or after 5 p.m. Wednesday do not count. Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and readers may vote repeatedly until then without using artificial methods. Nominations are accepted at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. Monday. Nominees for Oct. 13-18 include athletes with standout performances in football and water polo, such as multiple-goal games and a six-touchdown passing performance.

"On to the nominees: Elijah Balandin, Benicia water polo: The senior scored six goals to lead the Panthers to a 9-7 victory over Alhambra in a Diablo Athletic League Valley Division game. The output gave Balandin 101 goals on the season. Lenox Colvin, Oakland football: The junior completed 12 of 17 passes for 385 yards and six touchdowns as Oakland defeated Oakland Tech 46-20 in an Oakland Athletic League game. The victory improved Oakland's record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAL. Matthew Derossett, Burlingame water polo: The senior had five goals, two assists and two steals in a 15-7 victory over Priory. He began this week with 85 goals, 26 steals and 18 assists on the season."
