"Babirye Kiggundu, Berkeley basketball: Kiggundu, a junior shooting guard, scored 29 points to lead Berkeley to a win over San Lorenzo. Berkeley is 3-0 in its last three games after starting 3-11. Isabella Lawson, College Park basketball: The sophomore had a career-high 26 points in a 58-37 win against Mt. Diablo with three made 3-pointers. She also led College Park to a 58-49 win over Miramonte with 22 points and five 3-pointers."
A weekly Athlete of the Week poll covers performances from Jan. 26–31 and allows unrestricted public voting until polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Multiple votes are permitted but bots and artificial methods are prohibited; email votes and votes after the deadline do not count. Winners are announced each Friday online and in print in the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections. Nominations are accepted at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. each Monday and submitted stats from coaches or team statisticians are reviewed. Nominees include Mia Borja, Deoujenea Clay, Lita Fakapelea, Babirye Kiggundu, Isabella Lawson and Kenedi Nomura.
