"Although we do not know the reason for their departure, in moments like this, we will take any good news we can get,"
"This victory was won by and for the people of the Harbor Area,"
"Together, we proved that courage and determination"
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents vacated the Coast Guard site at Terminal Island that had been used as a base for immigration raids across California. The Coast Guard confirmed the agents vacated the site Friday evening, and it remains unclear whether they relocated elsewhere in Los Angeles County. The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Community volunteers and the Harbor Area Peace Patrols tracked agents' movements since summer and credit their surveillance with prompting the departure. The Harbor Area Peace Patrols formed in June to monitor enforcement in San Pedro, Wilmington and the Port of Los Angeles. Uncertainty remains over whether the departure is permanent, and immigration operations continue across the region on a near daily basis.
