The White House announced that the Kennedy Center was renamed The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. The center's Trump-appointed board members unanimously voted for the renaming after electing Trump as chairman earlier in the year. Federal law establishing the center's name requires any official name change to be passed through the U.S. Congress. Roma Daravi, the center's vice president of public relations, said the unanimous vote recognized that the current chairman saved the institution from financial ruin and that the new name reflects bipartisan support. Members of the Kennedy family criticized the renaming and emphasized legal and symbolic protections for the memorial.
