A historic peace deal was signed between Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev at the White House, witnessed by US President Donald Trump. The deal aims to end almost 40 years of conflict related to Nagorno-Karabakh. Aliyev expressed gratitude to Trump for his role in fostering peace, while Pashinyan announced the agreement as a new chapter for regional harmony. The precise terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed but include commitments to cease hostilities and recognize each other's territorial integrity.
"Today we writing a great new history," Azerbaijan's President Aliyev said as he addressed journalists at the White House together with Trump and his Armenian counterpart.
Armenia's Pashinyan said the deal represented "opening a chapter of peace," calling it a success "for our countries and for our region."
Trump said all three of them had just had an "extensive" conversation and had signed "voluminous documents" related to a peace deal.
The US president also said he was lifting restrictions on US military cooperation with Azerbaijan.
