Bernie Sanders Rips Elissa Slotkin on NBC's Meet the Press
Briefly

Senator Bernie Sanders responded critically to Senator Elissa Slotkin's remarks regarding his economic messaging, arguing that terms like 'oligarchy' resonate with the public. He pointed out his large rally attendance as evidence that people are engaged in the economic issues he discusses, particularly the stark wealth disparity between the top 1% and the bottom 90%. Sanders warned that failure to address working-class struggles could lead Americans to disengage from democracy, highlighting a lack of understanding from both political parties about everyday challenges citizens face.
I think the American people are not quite as dumb as Ms. Slotkin thinks they are. They understand very well, when the top 1% owns more wealth than the bottom 90%, when big money interests are able to control both political parties, they are living in an oligarchy.
If we don't address that issue, the American people will continue to turn their backs on democracy because they're looking around and they're saying, Does anybody understand what I am going through? And unfortunately, right now, to a large degree, neither party does.
