Bill Maher responded to Larry David's satire comparing Maher's dinner with Trump to dining with Hitler. Maher described Trump as surprisingly gracious during their meeting. In contrast, David's essay, which critiques accepting differing viewpoints, likens the dinner to moral compromise. Maher, while acknowledging their friendship, argued that David's comparison trivializes historical atrocities and contended he does not need to be lectured about Trump. He insists his honest reporting reflects his longstanding criticisms of Trump, prompting a nuanced discussion about dialogue across ideological divides.
Everything I've ever not liked about him was I swear to God absent, at least on this night with this guy.
First of all, it's kind of insulting to 6 million dead Jews... Hitler has really kind of got to stay in his own place. He is the GOAT of evil.
I don't need to be lectured on who Donald Trump is. Just the fact that I met him in person didn't change that.
This wasn't my favourite moment of our friendship.
