Whiteout conditions will severely limit visibility and make travel nearly impossible. Snow totals reached roughly 15 inches in Central Park, more than 18 inches at Newark and upward of 22 inches at Islip, with coastal areas possibly seeing one to two feet and reports exceeding 30 inches not ruled out. States of emergency were declared, travel bans and transit suspensions were issued, and more than 5,300 U.S. flights were canceled, grounding major airports.
