Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie alleged that President Donald Trump has turned the Justice Department into an instrument for politically motivated prosecutions. Christie claimed the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James followed direct orders from Trump and the installation of a compliant U.S. attorney after career prosecutors resisted. Christie identified Lindsey Halligan, the recently appointed U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, as the person who presented evidence to a grand jury. Halligan has since secured indictments, including one against former FBI Director James Comey, after her appointment.
