Rashid Khalidi is withdrawing from his fall course at Columbia University following a $200 million settlement with the Trump administration. The agreement stems from accusations that the university failed to protect Jewish students during protests against Israel's actions in Gaza. Columbia University will also pay $21 million to resolve investigations by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and will cease considering race in admissions and hiring practices. Khalidi criticizes the university for adopting values that he believes protect Israel from legitimate criticism.
Khalidi states that Columbia University has accepted values that "are dear to people who want to protect Israel from criticism at all costs while it slaughters people by the hundreds daily."
He also emphasizes that the university's new definition of antisemitism and its draconian policies make much teaching impossible.
