Condescending, Patronizing, Misogynistic': Democrat Waiting to Be Sworn In to House Hits Back Hard at Speaker Johnson
"She [Grijalva says that you're afraid of her being the 218th signer to the Epstein petition to release the files, said anchor John Roberts. That if she were a Republican, you would have sworn her in. What do you say? I say, bless her heart, Johnson said, using a condescending southern colloquialism. She's a representative-elect. She doesn't know how it works around here. We're going to give her the oath of office as soon as we get back to regular session."
"Grijalva told MSNBC's Alex Witt that Johnson's comments were totally condescending, patronizing, misogynistic, and really telling of where he is. I mean, I think that people can see what's happening here, and his push to obstruct me getting sworn in and why he's doing that is because I will be the 218th signer to the Epstein files. And this delay tactic, I believe, he's trying to get one of the other four Republicans who signed on to the petition to remove their name."
Adelita Grijalva won election to fill her late father's congressional seat but remains unsworn more than three weeks after the vote. House Speaker Mike Johnson has not administered the oath and said she is a representative-elect who does not know how the institution works, promising to swear her in when the House returns to regular session. Grijalva called Johnson's remarks condescending, patronizing, and misogynistic and said the delay appears aimed at preventing her from becoming the 218th signer on a petition to release the Epstein files. The state attorney general sent a demand letter insisting she be sworn in, citing deprived representation for 812,000 Arizonans. Grijalva says her office lacks phones and computers despite having keys and staff.
