Evan Low paid $106,000 ethics violation fine with campaign donations
Briefly

Evan Low faced a $106,000 fine due to 23 violations of campaign finance laws from a California Fair Political Practices Commission investigation. This was a result of not timely filing reports for donations solicited for nonprofits. He also funneled over $227,000 from a nonprofit to pay Alec Baldwin for appearances. Low was required to repay half of Baldwin's fee. After leaving the assembly, Low established a committee for a potential run for state controller, with $657,686.79 in cash on hand. The fine was paid from campaign funds.
Former Assemblymember Evan Low used campaign donations to pay a $106,000 fine for violating state campaign finance laws after a five-year investigation found he failed to file reports for nonprofit donations.
The California Fair Political Practices Commission's investigation found that Evan Low improperly used nonprofit funds to pay actor Alec Baldwin over $227,000 for appearances at multiple events.
Low returned half of Baldwin's speaking fee to the nonprofit, and he had previously served in the state assembly from 2014 to 2024 before making an unsuccessful congressional run.
In February, Evan Low closed his last state assembly campaign account, moving funds to a new committee called Low for State Controller 2030, currently holding $657,686.79.
