During its first 100 days, the current Trump administration has made 70% more changes to government environmental websites than during its first term. A report by the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative (EDGI) found that 632 important changes were made this year, compared to 371 in the previous term. These changes encompass significant alterations in content and focus, especially targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as well as environmental justice. The monitoring by EDGI also noted a decrease in volunteers and pages tracked compared to 2017.
The current Trump administration has made 70% more changes to government environmental websites during its first 100 days than the first Trump administration did.
The increase in changes was observed even though EDGI started the second Trump term with fewer volunteers and was monitoring fewer pages.
Gretchen Gehrke, co-founder of EDGI, expressed surprise at the extent of removal of information about environmental justice, noting that it surpassed any erasure seen under the first-term administration.
The EDGI report shows that the administration's biggest targets included diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as well as environmental justice.
