FBI takes over case of ICE agent killing US woman and cuts Minnesota's access to evidence
"The FBI has taken full control of the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Macklin Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) officer in Minneapolis, it emerged on Thursday. In a statement, the Minneosta Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it was initially called upon to help investigate the shooting before federal officials reversed course and said the case would be solely led by the FBI."
"Scores of people bundled up in heavy coats gathered in a parking lot near a building that houses several federal agencies, including an immigration court. The crowd was chanting and holding American flags and signs calling on ICE to leave Minnesota. Police at one point threw devices releasing smoke to break up the crowd, which carried signs and shouted profanities at them."
The FBI has assumed full control of the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Macklin Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was initially called to assist but withdrew after federal officials said the FBI would solely lead the case and the BCA no longer had access to case materials, witnesses, or evidence. Authorities canceled school classes across Minneapolis amid safety concerns and rising political tensions. Thousands attended a largely peaceful demonstration near a federal building; protesters chanted, held flags and signs demanding ICE leave, and police used smoke-releasing devices to disperse parts of the crowd. State leadership urged calm and warned of possible National Guard deployment. The victim, a U.S. citizen, was shot multiple times as she drove away during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation while the administration portrayed her as a domestic terrorist allegedly attempting to run officers over.
