FBI agents searched John Bolton's home in Bethesda, Maryland, around 7:00 a.m. as part of a national security probe related to classified documents. A senior U.S. official indicated the inquiry began years ago and was previously closed amid claims of political interference. Kash Patel reportedly ordered the investigation and signaled enforcement. The probe connects to disputes over Bolton's memoir and whether it contained classified material or mishandled meeting notes. A federal judge previously criticized Bolton for risking sensitive methods and sources. A separate criminal case and civil litigation were previously dropped but now appear to be revived.
Agents arrived at Bolton's home in Bethesda, Maryland, at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Friday to search it as part of what the New York Post called a national security probe pertaining to classified documents. A senior U.S. official told the paper that the probe into Bolton began years ago, and claimed that it was shut down for political reasons. FBI Director Kash Patel reportedly personally ordered an investigation into Bolton,
Bolton went on a jihad against Trump after he got fired. There was a major controversy over whether he had included classified information in the book, whether he had mishandled notes that he took at meetings, and stuff that ended up in his memoir, which was very lengthy and had a lot of quotations which must have been difficult to include from memory.
But after all of the back and forth, there was civil litigation. There was a judge, Judge Royce Lamberth, who criticized Bolton for being edgy in the book, risking, you know, the possibility of compromising methods and sources of information and opening himself up to civil and criminal litigation. The Biden administration dropped the criminal case and both sides decided to drop the civil litigation, but it's obviously being revived.
