The House Oversight Committee released over 30,000 documents related to the criminal investigation and death of Jeffrey Epstein. The release triggered journalistic research and speculative coverage across political media. The Epstein scandal and the manner in which President Donald Trump handled it became a major political issue, creating serious friction within the MAGA base and prompting skepticism that the president might be covering something up. Fox News largely ignored the release, offering only a Special Report segment in the 6 PM hour as the documents appeared. Fox provided live footage when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene hosted a press conference with Epstein's victims; Dana Perino introduced the footage, Greene accused government agencies and other entities of holding the truth, and Perino directed viewers to FoxNews.com to watch the full event.
Yet, Fox News has almost entirely ignored the story apart from a discussion on Special Report in the 6 PM hour as the House Oversight Committee released the documents, most of which were already public. For reasons that are not yet clear, the editorial and programming executives at Fox News found this particular story not to be worth covering until Rep. Taylor Greene hosted a press conference with Epstein's victims outside the Capitol building.
Dana Perino introduced live footage of the event, which allowed Fox News viewers a rare glimpse of Republican criticism of the Trump administration. The MAGA firebrand was shown speaking on Fox for roughly two minutes during which time she said, The truth needs to come out. And the government holds the truth. The cases that are sealed hold the truth, Jeffrey Epstein's estate holds the truth. The FBI, the DOJ, and the CIA holds the truth.
