Fox News Host Grills George Santos About Trump Setting Him Free: Why Shouldn't You Have Served Out Your Full' Prison Term?
"George Santos was somewhat of a rogue,' but there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren't forced to serve seven years in prisonGeorge has been in solitary confinement for long stretches of time and, by all accounts, has been horribly mistreated. Therefore, I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life!"
"I'm not getting away with it. I was the first person to ever federal prison for the civil FEC violation. These are usually solved and penalties, and I don't want to focus on trying to rehash the past. I want to take the experience and do good and move on with the future. Repentance is an understatement."
George Santos was released immediately after President Donald Trump commuted his seven-year federal sentence; Santos had served fewer than three months. Trump characterized Santos as "somewhat of a rogue" but said Santos had been mistreated in solitary confinement and announced the commutation. Santos denied that he was "getting away with it," noted he was punished for a civil FEC violation, expressed repentance, and described the release as a second chance. Santos said he has no immediate plans to run for Congress, did not rule out a future run, and intends to work on prison reform and sentencing issues.
