Gloria Gaynor has donated thousands of dollars to Republican lawmakers over recent years. President Donald Trump named Gaynor a 2025 Kennedy Center Honoree alongside George Strait, KISS, Michael Crawford, and Sylvester Stallone. Fans urged Gaynor to reject the honor, and commentator Ana Navarro urged her not to accept an award from Trump while noting the gay community helped turn her song into an anthem. Federal Election Commission records, reported by Meidas Touch, show a $235 donation to Ben Carson in 2016 under Gaynor's birth name, Gloria Fowles, and donations to WinRed beginning in 2023.
It might take all our strength not to fall apart, but it would appear that (former) queer icon Gloria Gaynor has donated thousands of dollars to Republican lawmakers over the last few years.
Gaynor was recently announced by President Donald Trump as one the 2025 Kennedy Center Honourees. Joining her are the musician George Strait, the band KISS (Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley), actor Michael Crawford, and Hollywood icon and Trump supporter, Sylvester Stallone. They will be the first batch of honourees since Trump took over the cultural institution in February.
the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way. But I wish she wouldn't accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ.
The gay community in particular, helped turn her signature song into an anthem. Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don't do it, Gloria!
