Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim are blocking her formal nomination under the Senate Blue Slip tradition. Senator Chuck Grassley defended the Blue Slip practice. President Trump openly criticized the tradition and Grassley, argued his constitutional appointment authority is being undermined in states with one Democratic senator, posted prior remarks by Grassley, and urged Grassley to allow Republican nominees to be confirmed.
