Mike Johnson needs near-unanimous Republican support to advance a procedural vote aimed at ending a partial government shutdown. The funding measure would finance most federal agencies through Sept. 30 and extend Department of Homeland Security funding for two weeks while lawmakers negotiate possible changes to ICE. Some GOP lawmakers threaten to block the effort unless their priorities are included, and Johnson can lose only one Republican on party-line votes with full attendance. Former President Trump urged a yes vote and demanded no changes. House GOP leaders said they must still persuade rank-and-file members as lawmakers returned to the Capitol.
