During a recent press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed Senator Thom Tillis's criticism of President Trump's budget bill, which he argues would betray Trump's promise to protect Medicaid. Leavitt contends that the legislation is designed to serve vulnerable populations while instituting work requirements for able-bodied individuals. She affirmed confidence in the bill's passage and commitment to addressing issues of waste and fraud. Tillis's remarks come amid discussions on the bill's implications for Medicaid eligibility and his own decision not to seek re-election.
Well, he is just wrong, and the president and the vast majority of Republicans who are supportive of this legislation are right. This bill protects Medicaid.
And what it does is it ensures that able-bodied Americans who can work 20 hours a week are doing so and that will therefore strengthen and protect those benefits for Americans who need it.
We're confident this bill is going to be back at the White House by the 4th of July.
It is inescapable this bill will betray the promise Donald Trump made, Tillis said. I'm telling the president that you have been misinformed.
