Hochul and Torres rally at Lincoln Hospital against 'cruel' Trump health care cuts - Bronx Times
Briefly

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Rep. Ritchie Torres rallied at Lincoln Hospital against significant health care cuts stemming from the recent Trump administration budget bill. The bill, passed on July 4, threatens the health care coverage of 1.5 million New Yorkers and could strip 300,000 households of SNAP benefits. Torres highlighted the large number of his constituents reliant on these benefits and the devastating impact the cuts will have on his Bronx district, where over half a million residents are enrolled in Medicaid, the highest rate nationally.
The budget bill passed on July 4 and is expected to result in 1.5 million New Yorkers losing their health care coverage and 300,000 households losing some or all of their SNAP benefits.
Torres said his constituents will suffer greatly under the Trump cuts because of the sheer number of people currently receiving benefits.
In NY-15, nearly 273,000 individuals across 158,306 households receive SNAP benefits, according to Hochul's office. Seventy percent of Torres' district population - well over half a million people - is enrolled in Medicaid, the highest rate in the country.
The Trump bill is 'really screwing New Yorkers', Hochul.
