"We did nothing wrong here,"
"ICE is a customer within the public affairs group, so we help them from our social-media management perspective."
"Hootsuite's terms of service prohibit use of its platform for law enforcement, surveillance and tracking."
"created a divided company, and this is not the kind of company I came to lead."
Irina Novoselsky defended Hootsuite's contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and stated the deal will remain if the agency follows the company's terms of service. Hootsuite provides social-media management and sentiment-analysis tools, and the firm says it will work with any customer that abides by usage guidelines. The company has recently terminated customer relationships for violations. Hootsuite's terms prohibit use of the platform for law enforcement, surveillance and tracking. Hootsuite secured a US$95,000 pilot project with ICE in September, and a government contractor holds a DHS contract to use Hootsuite. An earlier ICE contract was cancelled in September 2020 after employee backlash.
