House Republican Falls For Wild AI Video of Tim Walz Hating on Trump
Briefly

A Republican congressman reposted an AI-generated video showing Minnesota's governor wearing a profane T-shirt and dancing on a mall escalator to a Pussycat Dolls song. The post included a caption urging that someone doing that at a mall should be reported and banned. X attached a community note labeling the clip as clearly AI. Observers mocked the congressman for believing the video and for not deleting it, questioning whether he had staff to intervene. Commenters also criticized the idea that the behavior depicted would be a jailable offense and asked what law would be broken.
Moore shared the clip on X on wrote, If you were at the mall with your kids and this guy rolled down the escalator, you would call the cops and get him banned. X attached a community note to the original post of the video that included the caption, Something is wrong with Tim Walz. The community note clarified, this is clearly AI.
Days since a congressman fell for an AI video' sign set back to zero, quipped Semafor's Dave Weigel. Others were quick to note it was odd Moore hadn't simply deleted his tweet, with one X user writing, How has it been 5 hours and he still hasn't deleted this post calling himself out for getting fooled by (not even particularly good) AI? Like, does he not have friends or staff to intervene?
How has it been 5 hours and he still hasn't deleted this post calling himself out for getting fooled by (not even particularly good) AI? Like, does he not have friends or staff to intervene? Sure, there are no political consequences for him being so easily fooled but is it not embarrassing? What I find more alarming than a Congressman falling for AI slop is that he feels this behavior is a jailable offense. What law would a person doing this be breaking?
