And in recent months, she's angered large portions of her fan base by praising Donald Trump and the broader MAGA movement, after being outspokenly against the first Trump administration's family separation policies."
Two recent episodes reveal tensions around immigration, political allegiance, and enforcement. More than 120,000 people have signed petitions calling for rapper-turned-right-wing political activist Nicki Minaj to be deported to Trinidad. Minaj was brought to the United States as a child, has said she is not a U.S. citizen, and has recently praised Donald Trump and the MAGA movement after opposing family separation in the prior administration. An ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis amid conflicting accounts. Federal authorities contend the shooting was self-defense, alleging Good attempted to drive her car into ICE agents.
