ICE Shoots Person Who Allegedly Attacked Officer With Weapon, DHS Says
"The law enforcement officer caught up to the subject on foot and attempted to apprehend him when the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer. While the subject and law enforcement were in a struggle on the ground, two subjects came out of a nearby apartment and also attacked the law enforcement officer with a snow shovel and broom handle."
"As the officer was being ambushed and attacked by the two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick. Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life. The initial subject was hit in the leg."
An ICE officer allegedly shot a person in the leg during a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis after the subject attacked the officer with a weapon. The subject, identified as a Venezuelan released into the country in 2022, fled the scene in his vehicle, crashed into a parked car, and then fled on foot. The officer caught up and attempted to apprehend him, and the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer. Two additional people exited a nearby apartment and attacked the officer with a snow shovel and broom handle. During an ambush by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot that struck the initial subject in the leg. All three returned to the apartment and barricaded; the attacked officer and the subject were hospitalized and the attackers are in custody. The Department of Homeland Security blamed Minnesota state and city leaders for encouraging resistance to federal law enforcement and cited a surge in assaults against federal officers.
