Iranian Foreign Minister Downplays Chance Of Quick Restart Of Nuclear Talks
Briefly

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that talks with the United States will not resume quickly following President Trump's comments about negotiations. Araqchi emphasized the need for assurance that the U.S. will not threaten military action during discussions. Previous rounds of talks collapsed amid U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Araqchi remarked on Iran's capability to produce enriched uranium, indicating that bombing cannot destroy the underlying technology and science of enrichment. He mentioned that Iran could swiftly repair damages and recover lost time if there is determination.
"I don't think negotiations will restart as quickly as that," the Iranian foreign minister said in the interview with US broadcaster CBS. "In order for us to decide to reengage, we would have to first ensure that America will not revert to targeting us in a military attack during the negotiations."
Araqchi was also asked in the interview about an assessment from the head of the UN's nuclear watchdog that Iran would likely be able to begin to produce enriched uranium in a matter of months. "One cannot obliterate the technology and science for enrichment through bombings," he said.
