Adelita won the Democratic primary and the general election decisively, defeating Republican Daniel Butierez by nearly 40 points on September 23. The day after her victory she said she intended to travel to Washington, D.C. the following Monday to be sworn in, citing a looming shutdown. Separately, Representative Thomas Massie initiated a discharge petition to force release of Epstein-related Justice Department records.
