Kamala Harris's Life Could Be at Serious Risk
Briefly

President Donald Trump revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, canceling an extension that had kept her secured beyond the six-month statutory period. Federal law grants former presidents lifetime protection and former vice presidents six months of protection after leaving office. A directive signed by then-president Joe Biden had extended Harris's protection for an additional year but was not publicly disclosed until its later revelation. The revocation leaves Harris without federal protection and increases her personal security risk, particularly if she campaigns for president against vindictive, authoritarian opponents.
President Donald Trump revoked Kamala Harris's Secret Service protection on Thursday, according to a copy of a letter reviewed by CNN. Former presidents receive Secret Service protection for life. Harris, as a former vice president, received six months of protection after leaving office, according to federal law. That period ended on July 21. However, her protection had been extended for an additional year via a directivenot made public until nowsigned by then-president Joe Biden shortly before leaving office,
To be honest, I didn't know there was a time limit on protecting former vice presidents, but there ought not to be a time limit on vice presidents who subsequently run for president, because the hurly-burly of a presidential campaign is bound to stir up more serious threats. This is especially true for vice presidents who subsequently run for president against authoritarian madmen who will exact vengeance no matter how petty and dangerous it is.
Now, the former vice-president is going to have to fend for herself in regards to her personal security. She can probably afford it, but she shouldn't have to do so. Kamala Harris's life is now at serious risk. And the president of the United States is responsible for that. If he had the conscience God gave the common snail, that might bother him. Instead, those wattles are jiggling happily.
