L.A. student seized by immigration agents alleges they bragged of $1,500 arrest payment
Briefly

Eighteen-year-old Benjamin Guerrero-Cruz was arrested Aug. 8 and is being held at the federal Adelanto detention center. He told a former teacher he overheard masked agents boasting they would receive $1,500 for his arrest and that they said it was lucky for him, for them, they would be able to have drinks that weekend. Activists and educators rallied outside Los Angeles Unified School District headquarters calling for his immediate release. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said claims that DHS uses private contractors or 'bounty hunters' to make arrests are false and denied officer misconduct, without directly addressing the alleged $1,500 payment. A 2022 California settlement banned ICE from using private contractors to arrest immigrants at state prisons and upon release.
lucky for him, for them, they would be able to have drinks that weekend,
So my question is, who are these people that took him?
So yes, I am concerned that these were bounty hunters.
Claims that DHS uses private contractors or 'bounty hunters' to make arrests are false, the department stated, adding that it's also false that its officers acted improperly in any way.
