Letters: With Trump's tax law signed, protest is even more critical
Briefly

The Big Beautiful Bill has led to significant expansions in immigration enforcement, prioritizing it above all other federal law enforcement activities. The bill's provisions allow masked agents to detain and deport individuals without clear identification or due process. Additionally, cuts to food assistance programs have been enacted, with many local residents facing a dire increase in food insecurity. In Alameda County, one in four residents relies on food support, and the removal of benefits threatens their access to necessities. Community care is essential for equitable public service access, which is now at risk.
With the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill, immigration enforcement now dwarfs all other federal law enforcement, and is bigger than most militaries in the world. Its masked agents without identifications detain, deport and disappear people without due process.
The largest cut to food assistance programs ever just passed with the signing of Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill. The Alameda County Community Food Bank issued a statement saying that, Hunger is about to get worse.
In Alameda County, 1 in 4 residents experience food insecurity; 10% of the county, or 175,000 people, receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families put food on the table.
Without community care, how will people have equitable access to public services? The answer? They won't.
