Donald Trump faced renewed scrutiny over handling Jeffrey Epstein files and his personal links to Epstein. The Justice Department had announced in July there would be no further disclosures, prompting uproar among supporters and critics. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche interviewed Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for involvement in Epstein's abuse of teen girls, and indicated additional information would be shared. The department published redacted transcripts of Blanche's interviews with Maxwell on 22 August. The transcripts span hundreds of pages but provide limited new detail about Trump's association, show Maxwell distancing Trump, and reveal Blanche's focus on Bill Clinton.
While the transcripts span hundreds of pages, their contents are unlikely to satisfy those who want to know more about Trump's past association with Epstein let alone those who believe that the deceased financier was part of a powerful cabal of the global elite preying on young girls. Maxwell's comments on Trump in the transcripts largely played into his efforts to distance himself from Epstein.
