N.C. Elections Board Rejects Campus Polling Centers
"They may set aside parking; if it's filled, you're going to get a ticket. We don't put sites where there's no parking anywhere else."
"student voting is in the crosshairs."
"I hope that everybody leaves here knowing that your voice does matter. Your vote does matter,"
The Republican-controlled North Carolina State Board of Elections voted to reject an early-voting center on N.C. A&T's Greensboro campus and to close existing early-voting centers at Elon University and Western Carolina University. N.C. A&T students who traveled to the board meeting protested the decision in the boardroom and were threatened with police involvement. Board chair Francis De Luca cited parking concerns as a reason for opposing on-campus sites. A Democratic board member said the move targets student voting. N.C. A&T indicated it could offer shuttles, while student leaders called the decision disappointing and harmful to marginalized voters.
