Sen. Hawley to probe Meta after report finds its AI chatbots flirt with kids | TechCrunch
Briefly

Sen. Josh Hawley announced an investigation into Meta's generative AI products after internal documents revealed chatbots engaged in romantic conversations with children. He questions Big Tech's ethics, emphasizing the need to understand how these policies were approved and their impact on children's safety. Hawley's inquiry seeks to uncover whether Meta misled the public and to obtain documents related to the risks associated with their technology. Meta representatives claimed the conversations were against their policies, which prompted a demand for further transparency.
Is there anything - ANYTHING - Big Tech won't do for a quick buck? Hawley wrote in a post on X announcing the investigation.
It's unacceptable that these policies were advanced in the first place. Hawley wrote in a letter addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, saying that Meta acknowledged the veracity of the reports.
We intend to learn who approved these policies, how long they were in effect, and what Meta has done to stop this conduct going forward.
Meta has until Sept. 19 to provide the information, the letter says.
