A CNN panel watched a clip of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller celebrating National Guard deployment and asserting that Washington, D.C. residents altered daily routines out of fear of violence. Panelists Tiffany Cross, Abby Phillip, Arthur Aidala, Brad Todd, and Jaime Harrison engaged in loud crosstalk as opinions diverged on Miller's comments. Aidala defended Miller and revealed he used to hide his watch, while accusing Cross of being out of touch and questioning her subway use. Cross stated Miller is a white supremacist and the brainchild behind the policy, insisting that claim reflected facts rather than opinion.
Speaking from the White House, Miller said people are wearing their watches again. They're wearing jewelry again. They're carrying purses again. People have changed their whole lives in this city for fear of being murdered, mugged, and carjacked. The statement followed D.C. going more than 10 days without a homicide as Trump upped federal oversight as part of a crime crackdown in the city.
As he and Cross tried to make their arguments, Aidala accused Cross of being out of touch, asking if she took a car service to the show that night. I bet you took a car service here! Aidala said. I bet you get chauffeured around. When was the last time you were on the subway? Excuse me, you have no idea about my life, Cross shot back.
