Trump fires members of group that advises National Endowment for the Humanities
"On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the National Council on the Humanities is terminated, effective immediately,"
"Thank you for your service."
"take a more nuanced approach in making decisions"
President Donald Trump's administration terminated the majority of the National Council on the Humanities, notifying most members by email that their positions were ended immediately. The termination emails were sent by Mary Sprowls of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel and included a brief closing thanking members for their service. The council normally comprises 26 Senate-approved appointees serving six-year terms and requires a quorum of 14 members to conduct meetings. As recently as summer the council listed 21 members appointed across multiple administrations. Several 2019 appointees, including three women, were among those removed, and at least one member expressed surprise and disappointment.
