President Donald Trump proposed holding a Republican national convention just prior to the 2026 midterm elections to energize the party and bolster its prospects. He touted GOP momentum on Truth Social, claiming victory in every aspect of the presidential election, fundraising advantage over Democrats, and efforts to reverse Biden administration policies while the country heals and prospers. Trump suggested recommending a national convention and said it would be unprecedented. Democrats have reportedly explored a similar mini-convention to showcase candidates. Control of the House and Senate in 2026 would significantly affect Trump's agenda, with a House flip seen as more likely than Senate turnover.
The Republican Party is doing really well, Trump wrote. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS. We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper.
The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!! Trump's suggestion comes on the heels of news that Democrats have been considering the same thing. Axios reported Wednesday that DNC chair Ken Martin has been pushing the idea of a mini-convention to showcase some of the party's candidates.
