President Donald Trump demanded that Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Virginia attorney general, withdraw from the race after Jones sent grotesque texts joking about murdering Republican former House Speaker Todd Gilbert, saying he would put two bullets in Gilbert's head and later saying he would attend Gilbert's funeral to piss on his grave. Jones accidentally sent the texts to Republican colleague Carrie Coyner and doubled down after realizing the mistake. Trump labeled Jones a "Radical Left Lunatic," criticized Abigail Spanberger for not condemning the messages, and urged continued support for endorsed incumbent Jason Miyares.
