The Trump administration's plan involves deporting immigrants to countries where they are not citizens, representing a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy. Recently, eight men were deported to South Sudan, despite most having no ties to the country. The State Department advises against traveling to South Sudan due to dangerous conditions. Immigration officials have been authorized to send individuals to third countries with little notice, and there are concerns about the safety and legality of such actions. Other nations have attempted similar policies when home countries refuse cooperation on deportations.
The United States deported eight men who arrived in South Sudan this month - via Djibouti, where they were held for weeks in a metal shipping container at a naval base. All but one of the migrants had no connection to South Sudan.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem stated that other countries have agreed to take in deported individuals until their home country would receive them, especially when those countries do not cooperate with the U.S. on deportations.
