Trump says he's awarding former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani the presidential medal of freedom
"US president Donald Trump has said he's awarding Rudolph Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom, announcing the honour the day after his political ally and former New York mayor was badly injured in a traffic accident. Trump in a statement on social media called Giuliani, who was heralded for his leadership following the September 11 attacks but has sometimes drawn controversy for his defense of Trump, the "greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot.""
"Giuliani (81) is recovering from a fractured vertebra and other injuries following a car crash in New Hampshire in which he was a passenger. Giuliani was being driven in a rented Ford Bronco by his spokesperson Ted Goodman when their vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman late Saturday evening. He was taken to a nearby trauma centre and was being treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions,"
Donald Trump awarded Rudolph Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom the day after Giuliani, the former New York mayor, was badly injured in a New Hampshire car crash. Giuliani, 81, was a passenger in a rented Ford Bronco driven by his spokesperson when the vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman. He was taken to a trauma centre and treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg. Michael Ragusa, Giuliani's head of security, said Giuliani is in good spirits, recovering, and that the crash was not targeted. Giuliani was heralded for leadership after the September 11 attacks but later faced controversy, was disbarred in New York and Washington for false statements about the 2020 election, and was criminally charged in Georgia and Arizona over efforts to overturn the 2020 election, charges he denied.
