Trump says U.S. shouldn't have midterm elections - LGBTQ Nation
"It's some deep psychological thing, but when you win the presidency, you don't win the midterms,"
"when you think about it, we shouldn't even have an election."
"We already have teams of both senators and lawyers looking at every way that Trump could try to screw things up, and we're fighting against it. We already have a team to make sure that they count the votes fairly. And, remember, still, a lot of the election mechanisms are done by the states. And even in red states, there's resistance to Trump interfering."
"Trump will do whatever it takes, and he has no honor and no credibility and no respect for law. But, we are prepared for it, and we believe we will succeed,"
President Donald Trump suggested that the United States should not hold midterm elections because midterm voters often vote against the president's party and he claimed his presidency had accomplished so much that elections might be unnecessary. Democratic congressional leaders expressed concern that Trump could attempt to disrupt or prevent open and fair midterm contests. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer described teams of senators and lawyers examining potential interference and said Democrats are preparing to ensure votes are counted fairly. Many election mechanisms are managed by states, and some state officials, including in red states, resist interference.
