Trump to rename the Pentagon to the 'Department of War' - London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com
""It used to be called the Department of War, and it had a stronger sound. "And as you know, we won World War One, we won World War Two. We won everything. Now we have a Department of Defence with defenders.""
""Everybody likes that we had an unbelievable history of victory when it was the Department of War. "Then we changed it to Department of Defense.""
""Why not put this money toward supporting military families or toward employing diplomats that help prevent conflicts from starting in the first place?""
The US President signed an executive order to rename the Pentagon the Department of War and instructed that the US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth be called the Secretary of War in official communications. Pete Hegseth posted "DEPARTMENT OF WAR" on X and will begin the formal renaming process, which requires congressional approval. Former President Trump linked the older name to historic military victories and said it had a stronger sound. The renaming is expected to cost tens of millions to change letterheads, building signs and overseas base signage. Senator Tammy Duckworth criticized the expense and urged funds be directed to military families or diplomacy.
