US deploys aircraft carrier to Caribbean as war fears rise DW 10/25/2025
"The carrier deployment "will enhance and augment existing capabilities to disrupt narcotics trafficking and degrade and dismantle TCOs [transnational criminal organizations],""
""The enhanced U.S. force presence in the USSOUTHCOM AOR will bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere,""
""If you are a narco-terrorist smuggling drugs in our hemisphere, we will treat you like we treat Al-Qaeda. Day or NIGHT, we will map your networks, track your people, hunt you down, and kill you,""
""fabricating a war.""
The US ordered the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and accompanying vessels to deploy to the Caribbean as part of a regional military buildup aimed at combating drug trafficking. The deployment follows US strikes that reportedly destroyed at least ten vessels alleged to be carrying narcotics and an operation that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said killed six people on a boat tied to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Agua. Pentagon officials said the enhanced force will bolster detection, monitoring, and disruption of illicit actors in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility. Venezuelan leaders called the buildup an attempt at "fabricating a war."
