US president Donald Trump said Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured and flown out after a pre-dawn assault on Caracas and the surrounding region. Venezuela accused the US of launching attacks against civilian and military targets after explosions rocked Caracas and urged citizens to rise up. The government warned Washington risked plunging Latin America into chaos and called for mobilisation to defeat what it called imperialist aggression. Explosions and low-flying aircraft were reported, and attacks were confirmed in Miranda, La Guaira and Aragua. Colombia's president Gustavo Petro called for an immediate UN Security Council emergency session.
